I’ve grown up with cameras all around, from my dad making home videos and trying to capture every serve at a volleyball tournament, to grandma catching that moment we opened our stockings on Christmas morning. I was always curious about the camera, but I never imagined I would be looking through the lens professionally. Event planning however, that was the dream occupation. After seeing the movie, The Wedding Planner, starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey I dreamed of living a life like “Mary”. Being able to help someone plan and execute, problem solve, and more to make sure one of the most memorable days of someone’s life goes off with only one hitch sounded like the perfect job for me.
In 2017, I served on the photography and social media team at Paradigm, a young adults ministry in Lee’s Summit. It was there that I was trained by a great photographer Lauren Boley, the owner of LaLa Lensart, and brought to love the view from the lens of my camera. As I began to develop my photography skills and grow my love for the picture, I began the process of building my portfolio outside of the ministry. My friends and their families loved the idea of free photos, and any weddings or showers I was asked to help with I brought my camera. Every picture carries a story. Every event creates a memory. That’s what I love about photography and event planning. I started my photography business in 2018. Then in 2020 I started an online course with NYIAD, New York Institute for Art and Design, to hone my event planning skills and add some tools to my repertoire. Now I work as an event coordinator with a venue and garden center in Blue Springs Missouri called Colonial Gardens.
